PORT OF LOS ANGELES HOLDS LAST FREE TREE GIVEAWAY OF THE SUMMER
WILMINGTON Calif. – August 12, 2008 – The Port of Los Angeles will be giving away a total of 400 free trees to the community on Saturday, August 16, 10 a.m., at Neptune Field, located at Neptune Avenue and C Street in Wilmington. The final tree giveaway for 2008, this event is in continuation of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Million Trees LA program.
Trees will be limited to two per family and will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in picking up a tree on Saturday should arrive as early as possible. Transportation for the trees will not be provided and deliveries are not available.
Free trees are five-gallon sized, and varieties include persimmon, tangerine, King Palm, purple orchid, and European white birch trees.
The Port of Los Angeles Free Tree Program includes supplying free trees to its customers and neighbors in addition to its beautification program of continued tree plantings on and around Port property. Since its kickoff in 2007, the Port has given away nearly 5,000 free trees to the community.
