PORT OF LOS ANGELES WINS 2010 ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS DOCUMENT FOR WILMINGTON WATERFRONT PROJECT

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — March 18, 2010 — The Environmental Management staff of the Port of Los Angeles has received the 2010 Outstanding Environmental Analysis Document by the Association of Environmental Professionals for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Wilmington Waterfront Project. The EIR preparation and public review were completed within 15 months, and the document was certified by the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners in June 2009.

“This was a first-class effort by our environmental team, their consultants and other port staff, and it played a critical role in the Wilmington Waterfront Project being approved by the Harbor Commission,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, Ph.D. “I’m thrilled to see our staff recognized for its comprehensive work on this project.”

Judges noted that, “The EIR provided an excellent project description with excellent photo simulations of the complex project, supported by figures and tables.” Judges also noted the well-executed Executive Summary and a user-friendly Reader Guide presented in both English and Spanish.  View the EIR and the final documents here. ICF Jones and Stokes, the consultant for the project, was also honored for its work on the report. The award was announced this week at the Association of Environmental Professionals annual conference in Palm Springs. The group is a non-profit organization of environmental practitioners and natural resource managers dedicated to the enhancement, maintenance and protection of the natural and human environment.
