The Port of Los Angeles Cars & Stripes Forever! event takes place on Thursday, July 2, 2009, from 5-11 p.m., on the Port of Los Angeles Promenade, along Harbor Boulevard from the Vincent Thomas Bridge to 1st Street in San Pedro. Main program begins at 8 p.m., with special fountain shows directly following the program and again at 9:30 p.m.
Free for the community, the Port of Los Angeles Cars & Stripes Forever! event will feature live local bands (The Topics, Hindsight, The Daddyos), classic cars, Harleys, new songs added to the Bellagio-style Fanfare Fountain, activities for the children, food and beverages for sale (including a Beer Garden) and a down-home patriotic atmosphere. Activities and parking are free and all are invited to enjoy this first-time event. Food and beverage sales benefit local charities -- Beer Garden proceeds benefit Clean San Pedro, food and beverage sales benefit the Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society and the Los Angeles Maritime Museum.
Presenting the colors at the Port of Los Angeles Cars & Stripes Forever! event, will be the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2967, Wilmington, and singing the national anthem will be God's Women of Treasure from Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, San Pedro.
