SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Jan. 17, 2019 –The popular Lunar New Year Festival returns to San Pedro on Saturday, February 2, and will feature a host of cultural attractions, dance and musical performances, as well as culinary delights traditionally enjoyed during this annual Asian holiday.

Sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles, the free public event moves to an all-new location this year—the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro. The Festival kicks off at 3 p.m. and concludes at 7 p.m. with a spectacular fireworks display (weather permitting).

“We’re excited about this year’s new location, which offers festival visitors a two-fold experience—a great cultural celebration, along with the opportunity to explore the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and its many attractions,” said Theresa Adams Lopez, Director of Community Relations at the Port of Los Angeles.

The 5th Annual Lunar New Year Festival will honor the “Year of the Pig,” one of the twelve animals in the Chinese Zodiac. Festival attractions will include cultural performers, a wishing wall, face painting, food trucks and a host of celebratory activities honoring Lunar New Year traditions. The Giddy up Pony Ranch will be back with its Chinese Zodiac-themed petting zoo, featuring live roosters, sheep, goats, ponies and—of course—pigs.

Live performances will include the AT Asian Chinese dancers; the Korean Dance Academy of Los Angeles; Fujima Seiyumi Kai of the South Bay; Halau Hula Moani’ Al’a Anuhea; Hanabi Taiko Drummers; Khmer Arts Academy of Long Beach; and the Cerritos-based Awakened Blessing Lion Troupe. The Kendo Club of Venice will return with its high energy martial arts demonstration.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Port of Los Angeles, with miles of public promenade and walking paths, acres of open space and scenic views, the LA Waterfront blankets more than 400 acres of prime waterfront property and boasts historic Los Angeles Harbor landmarks, such as the welcoming Vincent Thomas Bridge and Angels Gate Lighthouse. The busiest container port in North America, the Port of Los Angeles funds and maintains the LA Waterfront, and remains committed to enhancing public access to the waterfront by connecting visitors and local harbor communities with recreational and commercial attractions that expand and diversify the Port’s position as a premier source of economic vitality for the region.
