Departmental Audit Manager
Jim Olds is the departmental audit manager for the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s leading container port and the highest-rated U.S. seaport operating without tax support. In this role, Olds heads the Port’s Management Audit section, which is responsible for the examination of operations and the review of internal controls to ensure effectiveness in achieving the Port’s fiscal objectives and strategic initiatives.
Appointed in July 2008, Olds oversees and provides operational and management audit services, while serving as a liaison with the City of Los Angeles Controller’s Office and other agencies regarding audit activities.
With his extensive audit experience in governmental, private industry, and public accounting, Olds is aptly positioned to help keep Port spending aligned with Mayor Villaraigosa’s greater goals for the City of Los Angeles.
Olds previously served as a Senior Accountant and Senior Auditor for the City of Torrance, positions he held for four years. During the remainder of his 10-year tenure there, he also served as an Audit Manager and Comptroller, leading the City’s Workforce Investment Network fiscal staff.
Prior to working for the City of Torrance, Olds spent six years as a senior accountant at Loyola Marymount University. He has held accounting and auditing positions with some of the nation’s leading corporations, including Citizen Watch, McDonnell Douglas, and Deloitte & Touche.
Olds earned his bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Southern California, and his Master of Science in Business Management from the University of Bath in England, where he attended as a Rotary International Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar. He also holds active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) certificates.
