Tish Elliot Lorenzana
Director of Human Resources
Tish Elliot Lorenzana is the director of human resources at the Port of Los Angeles, a proprietary, non-tax-supported department of the City of Los Angeles (also referred to as the Los Angeles Harbor Department) with 1,000 authorized employees.
Lorenzana was appointed her current post in 2007, after working in management and administrative capacities within the Port’s Human Resources Division for eight years. In her previous HR role as senior management analyst, she concurrently served as an acting legislative representative from 2005 to 2006, tracking City Council and Council Committee items on behalf of the Port.
As a senior management analyst, Lorenzana functioned as a labor relations liaison among various bargaining units and employee unions, and as the Port’s Equal Employment Opportunity Officer. She was also the project manager for special assignments, such as nationwide executive recruitment searches and a department-wide employee morale study.
Prior to working in Human Resources, Lorenzana held the position of management analyst and oversaw the Port’s Minority/Women/Other Business Enterprise (M//W/OBE) Program.
Lorenzana gained 13 years of experience in port operations while working in the Port’s Wharfinger Division, where she was responsible for customer relations as well as collecting billing and service fees from the Port’s major terminal operators and steamship lines.
She started her City career as a student worker in 1977 with the Wharfinger and Accounting Divisions.
Lorenzana holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior from the University of San Francisco, and is a past participant of the Leadership Southern California program. She was one of few Port employees selected to participate in a sister port exchange program in 1995, visiting the Japanese ports of Kobe, Osaka, Nagoya, Yokohama, and Tokyo.
