THERESA ADAMS LOPEZ
Director of Community Relations
Theresa Adams Lopez serves as the director of community relations for the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s leading container port. In this role, she oversees the Port’s outreach efforts to the community, including educational components, as well as major event planning. Specific programs encompassed in the Port’s outreach initiatives include the Speakers Bureau, School & Public Boat Tours, Times in Education and a soon-to-be-debuted 53-foot traveling educational exhibit. She also serves as host of the cable television show that highlights activities at the Port of Los Angeles.
Adams Lopez assumed her current role in 2008 and previously served as the Port’s director of media relations where she served as official media spokesperson. Prior to joining the Port, she worked for the City of Los Angeles’ Personnel Department from 1989 to 2002, where she was responsible for marketing outreach efforts for both the Los Angeles Police Department’s and Los Angeles Fire Department’s recruitment programs, resulting in the hiring of thousands of public safety professionals.
Prior to her employment with City of Los Angeles, Adams Lopez served as marketing manager for KingWorld Productions where she assisted in the marketing planning efforts for such television programs as Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, Inside Edition, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Adams Lopez began her career as a promotions coordinator at Walt Disney’s Buena Vista Television, where she was responsible for trade and consumer media buying, station relations and the coordination of major industry conferences around the country.
Adams Lopez earned a bachelor’s degree in communications studies from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in communication management from the University of Southern California, Annenberg School of Communications.
