NEW COMMISSIONER JAIME L. LEE SWORN IN
AS LOS ANGELES HARBOR COMMISSION PRESIDENT

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – April 19, 2018 – Jaime L. Lee, the newest Los Angeles Harbor Commissioner, has been elected president of the Los Angeles Harbor Commission. Lee was appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council last week.

“I’m humbled to join my fellow harbor commissioners and serve as president of this important commission,” said Lee. “I look forward to workingwith all port stakeholders and staff as I continue the efforts of my predecessor to further enhance North America’s premier trade gateway.”

Ambassador Vilma Martinez served as President of the Los Angeles Harbor Commission for five years before stepping down earlier this month.

A native Angeleno, Jaime L. Lee has served as board president and commissioner on the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System Board of Administration for the past four years. Previously, Lee was a commissioner on the Los Angeles City Industrial Development Authority, the Los Angeles City Quality and Productivity Commission, and on the State of California’s Speech Language Pathology, Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board. She was recently appointed to the California Film Commission. Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Southern California and a law degree from USC’s Gould School of Law.

The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners oversees the management and operation of the Port of Los Angeles.  Harbor commissioners are appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles and confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council. They serve five-year terms and elections are typically held every July for the offices of president and vice president. All five members of the Harbor Commission are volunteers.

The Port of Los Angeles is America’s premier port and has a strong commitment to developing innovatively strategic and sustainable operations that benefit Southern California’s economy and quality of life. North America’s leading seaport by container volume and cargo value, the Port of Los Angeles facilitated $284 billion in trade during 2017. San Pedro Bay port complex operations and commerce facilitate one in nine jobs in the five-county Southern California region.
