December 13, 2001 - During the month of November, the Port of Los Angeles moved a total of 455,504 TEUs, a 10% increase compared to last year’s figure of 414,028 TEUs. (TEUs are twenty-foot equivalent units, a standard maritime measurement used when counting marine cargo containers.)
Imports totaled 234,132 TEUs, up 17.4% in a year-to-year comparison with last year’s 199,387 TEUs. Exports showed an increase of approximately 8% with the movement of 89,680 TEUs as compared to 82,848 TEUs.
Larry Keller, Port executive director, stated, "The November container cargo figures are encouraging. As the year and the holiday shipping season draw to a close, we continue to remain optimistic and look forward to playing a role in supporting the regional economy."
Calendar year figures indicate a 5.8% overall increase in container movement with 4.7 million TEUs. Fiscal year figures to date (July-November) show 2.3 million TEUs, a 6.8% increase over last year.
