PORT OF LOS ANGELES CELEBRATES WORLD TRADE WEEK WITH ‘WAVES ‘N’ WHEELS’
ON THE LA WATERFRONT

Free Event on Saturday, May 16th Offers Boat Tours of LA Harbor
and Dockside Vehicle Display

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — April 28, 2015 — In celebration of World Trade Week, the Port of Los Angeles will host the first-ever Waves ‘N’ Wheels event on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., from locations in both San Pedro and Wilmington. The free public event offers boat tours of Los Angeles Harbor and unique displays of Port vehicles and equipment.

The free, hour-long, narrated boat tours depart every 30 minutes from two locations: Downtown Harbor, 504 S. Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro, and Banning’s Landing Community Center, 100 E. Water Street, in Wilmington. Spectators will take in the impressive operations of America’s busiest port, featuring dramatic views of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, massive container ships, towering cranes, and active marine wildlife.

Reservations are not required for the tours, which operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Both locations offer boats that are wheelchair accessible with restrooms available on board.

In addition to the scenic boat tours, Waves ‘N’ Wheels will offer displays of vehicles, equipment, and vessels that work in Los Angeles Harbor, including heavy duty trucks, alternative-fuel systems, military and law enforcement equipment, historic vehicles, tugs, and more.

Sightseers may also visit nearby LA Waterfront destinations, including the Cruise Ship Promenade featuring the Gateway Plaza Fanfare Fountain, Battleship IOWA, Los Angeles Maritime Museum, and S.S. Lane Victory – all within walking distance or a short ride aboard the vintage Waterfront Red Car Line. Afterward, visit a variety of restaurants and art galleries in historic downtown San Pedro, enjoy Ports O’ Call Village, and shop for handmade crafts and gifts at CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles.

World Trade Week is celebrated nationally each May with a program of tours and events designed to educate the public on global trade and its importance to the economy.
