SUMMER EVENT SCHEDULE

New Events Include LA Fleet Week™ and Pet Expo/Concert

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – May 31, 2016 – With the LA Waterfront continuing to grow as a popular destination for both local residents and out-of-town visitors, the Port of Los Angeles announced today a full slate of events for the summer season, including annual favorites and a few new additions.

“The LA Waterfront this summer has something for everyone, no matter age or interest,” said Doane Liu, Deputy Executive Director at the Port of Los Angeles.  “We’re especially excited to host the first annual LA Fleet Week™ this Labor Day Weekend, which is sure to become a time-honored end-of-summer LA celebration.”

New to the line-up in 2016 will be LA Fleet Week™. For the first time, the City of Los Angeles and the Port will be hosting Navy ships at the LA Waterfront over the Labor Day Weekend, September 2-5.  The Navy will be offering public tours of active vessels and military equipment demonstrations, and providing visitors a peak into the daily life aboard a Navy vessel. JUNE
Concert on the LA Waterfront
Saturday, June 4, 6 – 9:30 pm

  • Wilmington Waterfront Park, West Pavilion area (1004 West C Street)

The concert will feature the performance of the all-women mariachi band Las Colibri (The Hummingbirds) and the participation of the Ballet Folkórico Sol de México.  

Fiesta Corazón del Puerto
Saturday, June 11, Noon - 10 p.m.

  • Wilmington Waterfront Park, Great Lawn area (604 West C Street)

This annual community event features music, dancing, entertainment for kids and community booths.  New for 2016 is the first Mole Throw Down, with the winner earning the title of “Best Mole in Wilmington”.  The Fiesta will also have the participation of the following live bands: Susie Hanson Band from 2 – 3:30 pm, Harbor Groove Band from 4 – 6:30 pm and Satisfaction Band from 8 – 10 pm.  There will be free mole tastings, while supplies last, community information booths and children’s activities.

 

JULY

8th Annual Port of Los Angeles Cars & Stripes Forever!
Friday, July 1, 5 - 10 p.m.

  • Harbor Blvd at the Vincent Thomas Bridge, San Pedro
     

This free pre-Independence Day celebration will feature more than 100 classic cars, as well as a special exhibit by the Southern California Ford dealers. The event also includes live bands, food trucks and a beer garden. Fireworks start at 9:20 p.m. Low-cost parking is available at Harbor Blvd. and 1st Street, with a free shuttle to downtown San Pedro. 66th Annual John Olguin Fireworks Spectacular
Monday, July 4, 2 - 10 p.m.

Cabrillo Beach is the place to be for some of the best fireworks in the Southland—at the 66th Annual John Olguin July 4th Spectacular Fireworks Show.
 
Paws-itive vibes” Pet Expo & Concert  
Saturday, July 9, 3 - 7 p.m.

  • Wilmington Waterfront Park East Pavilion (604 W. C Street)

The Port welcomes well-behaved pets and their owners to this new summer event that will feature pet adoptions, vaccinations and demonstrations, as well as a live band. There will also be a “best dressed” pet contest. For more information, visit lawaterfront.org or call (310) 732-3508.
 
Movie in the Park

Friday, July 15, 8-10 p.m.

  • Downtown Harbor, San Pedro

This free family movie night will be showing the Disney smash hit, “Inside Out,” at two locations: the Downtown Harbor in San Pedro and the Wilmington Waterfront Park. Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival
July 22 - 24 (Friday 5 - 11 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

“Come for the feast, stay for the fun” is the motto for the world’s largest lobster festival, featuring family entertainment, live music, fresh Maine lobster and other culinary delights. Paid parking is available at the Cruise Ship parking lot, or guests can take advantage of free parking and shuttles from the Cabrillo Marina area at 22nd Street and Miner. AUGUST

The Taste of San Pedro
Saturday, Aug. 6, 5 - 10 p.m.

  • CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro

Eat, drink, celebrate. The San Pedro Chamber’s Taste of San Pedro is a culinary festival featuring cuisine from 20 San Pedro and Peninsula area restaurants. Enjoy craft beers at the new Brouwerij West, craft spirits and wine tasting. Held this year at CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles open air courtyard.

 

SEPTEMBER

LA Fleet Week
Friday, Sept. 2 – Monday, Sept. 5 - specific event times to be announced

  • LA Waterfront, San Pedro

Thousands of sailors are expected to descend upon the Port of Los Angeles for LA Fleet Week™ during Labor Day weekend 2016. The free event will feature active duty military ships available for public tours and an overlay of other activities on and around the waterfront. Military flyovers are also planned. OCTOBER

Red Bull Global Rallycross
Saturday Oct. 8 (Gates open at 10:00 a.m.), Sunday Oct. 9 (Gates open at 7:00 a.m.)

Featuring some of the fastest and most exciting racing in motorsports, this event pits small production-based cars driven by star drivers against each other.
