SAN PEDRO, Calif. – March 1, 2018 – The Port of Los Angeles is now accepting applications for its Community Investment Grant program, which annually distributes up to $1 million per year in funding for initiatives, programs and events benefiting the Los Angeles Harbor community. Completed applications are due by 4 p.m. on May 7, 2018.

Two workshops are scheduled to provide details about the application process. The first is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at Banning’s Landing Community Center, 100 E. Water Street in Wilmington. The second workshop will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 in the 2nd floor Board Room of the Port of Los Angeles Administration Building, 425 S. Palos Verdes Street in San Pedro. To apply, organizations must have 501(c)3 nonprofit status.

The Port awards grants in three categories: small (up to $5,000), medium ($5,001-$99,999) and large ($100,000 or more). The Community Investment Grant Program is not taxpayer-funded but paid for exclusively from Port shipping and lease revenues.

All proposed projects must be compliant with the Harbor Department’s Tidelands Public Trust Doctrine, which specifies activity categories for grant awards. These include water navigation; maritime commerce; fishing; marine environment ecological preservation; marine-related scientific study; water-related recreation; and visitor-serving waterfront activities.
