Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Offers Year-End Assessment

A Record September at Port of Los Angeles as Cargo Volume Exceeds 903,000 TEUs
The Port of Los Angeles processed 903,865 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in September 2021, the busiest September ever in the Port’s 114-year history. Year to date, overall cargo volume stands at 8,176,917 TEUs, an increase of 26% compared to 2020.
August Cargo Volume Exceeds 954,000 TEUs at Port of Los Angeles
Strong American consumer demand has continued unabated for more than a year, evidenced by the steady amount of cargo streaming through the Port of Los Angeles. In August, the Port processed 954,377 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), just shy of last August’s record of 961,833 TEUs.

Consumer demand fuels strong July at the Port of Los Angeles: The Port processed 890,800 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in July, a 4% increase compared to last year. Last summer is when U.S. consumer purchasing began to build momentum and was the start of 12 consecutive months of year-over-year growth at America's Port®.
June Volume Yet Another Record at Port of Los Angeles
The Port of Los Angeles processed 876,430 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in June, a 27% increase compared to last year. It was the Port’s busiest June ever and closed the fiscal year at 10,879,383 TEUs, a new milestone for any Western Hemisphere port.
Port Surpasses 1 Million Containers in a Single Month
The Port of Los Angeles processed 1,012,048 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in May, a leap of 74% compared to last year. It was the busiest month ever in the Port’s 114-year history, the 10th consecutive month of year-over-year increases and the first time a Western Hemisphere port has handled more than 1 million TEUs in a month.
Robust April Volume Breaks Another Record at Port of Los Angeles
The Port of Los Angeles handled 946,966 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in April, a spike of 37% compared to last year. It was the best April in the Port’s 114-year history, and the ninth consecutive month of year-over-year increases.
Port of Los Angeles Cargo Volume Strong Start to 2021
The Port of Los Angeles processed 835,516 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in January 2021, an increase of 3.6% compared to January 2020. It was the sixth consecutive month of year-over-year increases as U.S. consumer spending continues to drive demand for goods.

Port of L.A. Cargo Reaches 9.2 Million TEUs in 2020
The nation’s busiest container port moved 9.2 million TEUs in 2020, Port Executive Director Gene Seroka announced at PMSA’s sixth annual State of the Port of Los Angeles – a virtual event this year. 2020 was the fourth busiest year on record at the Port of Los Angeles, where cargo continues to flow—despite being in the midst of pandemic.
November Cargo Volume Increases 22%
Port of Los Angeles cargo volume was 889,746 TEUs in November 2020, an increase of 22% compared to November 2019. A combination of increased consumer spending, holiday shipments and replenishment of warehouse inventories has resulted in an unprecedented surge of cargo in recent months.
