PORT OF LOS ANGELES RELEASES INITIAL STUDY, NOTICE OF PREPARATION FOR PROPOSED BOATYARD AT BERTH 44

Jan. 11, 2024 – The Port of Los Angeles has released an Initial Study/Notice of Preparation (IS/NOP) – the first step in the environmental review process – for the proposed Berth 44 Boatyard Project.

The proposed project would include site preparation consisting of site remediation, demolition, repairs, and grading to be completed by the Harbor Department, followed by construction to redevelop the 4.75-acre site with a state-of-the-art boatyard. The redeveloped site would include docks, gangways, slips, scissor lifts, sanding systems, and a 400-ton travel lift operating to service vessels such as tugboats, commercial fishing boats, recreational vessels and ferries, as well as commercial sales of vessel supplies. The proposed project would be operated for up to 40 years.

The IS/NOP is available for review on the Port of Los Angeles website at at portoflosangeles.org/ceqa. The IS/NOP is intended to solicit feedback, which helps to identify any potential environmental impacts and suggest possible alternatives for the project that can be incorporated into the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR).

A virtual public meeting will be held for the proposed project at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25. No registration is required. The meeting will take place via Zoom.
