Clean Air Action Plan Advisory Meeting Set for March 13

CLEAN AIR ACTION PLAN PUBLIC ADVISORY MEETING SET FOR MARCH 13

First public advisory meeting of 2019 to be held in Long Beach

February 28, 2019 SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The first advisory meeting of 2019 to offer information on progress of the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan 2017 Update (CAAP 2017 Update) is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, in Long Beach.

Up to four CAAP stakeholder advisory meetings a year were called for as part of the Clean Air Action Plan Update approved by the Long Beach and Los Angeles boards of Harbor Commissioners in November 2017.

The next advisory meeting will take place from 9-11 a.m. March 13, in the 1st Floor Training Room at the Port of Long Beach Interim Administrative Offices, 4801 Airport Plaza Drive, Long Beach 90815. The meeting is open to the public.

The CAAP 2017 Update is a comprehensive strategy for accelerating progress toward a zero-emission future while protecting and strengthening the ports’ competitive position in the global economy. Since 2005, port-related air pollution emissions in San Pedro Bay have dropped 87 percent for diesel particulate matter, 58 percent for nitrogen oxides, and 97 percent for sulfur oxides. Targets for reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) from port-related sources were introduced as part of the 2017 CAAP. The document calls for the ports to reduce GHGs 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. The Clean Air Action Plan was originally approved in 2006.

Public comment will be taken at the advisory meeting to receive input on CAAP implementation issues. An agenda will be posted on the CAAP website prior to the meeting.
