SAN PEDRO BAY PILOTS TO BE HONORED AT ANNUAL MARITIME INDUSTRY SALUTE DINNER SEPT. 27

 

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Aug. 14, 2018 – The International Seafarers Center will host its annual Maritime Industry Salute Dinner 2018 aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.  The event will feature a boat parade and pay tribute to the San Pedro Bay port pilots, the expert seafaring professionals from the Los Angeles Pilot Service and Jacobsen Pilot Service responsible for ensuring the safe flow of ship traffic in and out of the harbor.

The International Seafarers Center is a non-profit organization that provides and maintains facilities and services for merchant seamen calling at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The Center serves more than 50 seafarers a day at the port complex, the nation’s largest trade gateway.

A 5 p.m. reception will kick off the event, followed by a boat parade at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $150 per person with all proceeds benefiting the Center. The Los Angeles Pilot Service has served the Port of Los Angeles since 1907. Jacobsen Pilot Service (JPS) has served the Port of Long Beach since 1924.  Each day, San Pedro Bay pilots, with the assistance of boat crews and dispatchers, safely bring the world’s biggest vessels in and out of the San Pedro Bay.
