PORT OF LOS ANGELES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR STATEMENT ON USNS MERCY HOSPITAL SHIP
 

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — March 22,  2020 — “The Port of Los Angeles stands ready to partner with the U.S. Navy and the federal government as it prepares to bring the USNS Mercy to the Port of Los Angeles. The welfare of our residents is the top priority during this public health crisis,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka.
 
Update: ​The USNS Mercy arrived Friday, March 27 and will serve as a referral hospital for patients NOT infected with COVID-19. Instead the ship will handle overflow of acute trauma cases and other urgent needs allowing shore-based hospitals to focus medical care resources on the treatment of coronavirus patients.​​
