A LIMITED NUMBER OF LA FLEET WEEK® SHIP TOUR RESERVATIONS
ARE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Port of Los Angeles Presents Evergreen with 9 million TEU certificate
SAN PEDRO, Calif. -
Aug. 7, 2017 - LA Fleet Week® fans get their first shot at making reservations for free public ship tours this week. Reservations to tour active military vessels during this year’s LA Fleet Week Sept. 1-4 are now available here.

Free public ship tours are one of the most popular attractions at the annual four-day Labor Day weekend event on the LA Waterfront, but online reservations are limited to accommodate walk-up tours Sept. 1-4.  All reservations and walk-up tours are available to the public only on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“Ship tour reservations are free to the public. Reserving your tour online is ideal if you can do it, but tours and a whole lot of other activities will be available for walk-up visitors over the holiday weekend,” advises Jonathan Williams, president of the LA Fleet Week Foundation.

Visitors without reservations can still view ship exteriors while at the event, or enjoy the many other LA Fleet Week attractions, including live entertainment, military and educational exhibits, food and festivities.  The ships start sailing into the Port on Tuesday, August 29.  Highlights of the week-long celebration include a Wednesday Welcome Party in downtown San Pedro, live entertainment nightly on the fantail of the Battleship IOWA, a Saturday night concert and fireworks display, the famous Labor Day morning Conquer the Bridge run, and a Labor Day afternoon Barbeque and “Galley Wars” culinary competition between the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps and the Royal Canadian Navy.  A full schedule of events and entertainment line-up will be released next week.

When attending LA Fleet Week, all ship tour reservation holders must present printed or electronic proof of reservation, as well as a government-issued identification to board vessels for the guided tours. Government-issued identification will also be required to enter event venues, except for children under 18 years of age when accompanied by an adult.  In addition, event attendees will be subject to airport-style security search procedures. The LA Fleet Week website provides further details regarding important ship tour and event rules, restrictions and prohibited items.

When registering for ship tours online, the public will be able to designate the time and date of their tour but not the type of ship, which will be randomly assigned. The specific ships participating in this year’s LA Fleet Week will be announced later this month. Each online reservation registrant is limited to six tickets, and visitors must be at least five years old to participate in ship tours.

LA Fleet Week is a U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard tradition, in which active military ships recently deployed overseas dock in a variety of major cities for one week. In November 2015, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, U.S. Navy officials and the Port of Los Angeles announced that Los Angeles had been selected as an official Fleet Week market for the U.S. Navy.  Last year’s inaugural event drew more than 200,000 people.

LA Fleet Week sponsors include American Airlines, Andeavor, The Annenberg Foundation, Bob Hope USO, Clyde & Company, Delta Airlines, East West Bank, F&M Bank, Liberty Creek Wines, NBCUniversal, UPS and US Bank.  Providing overall leadership and guidance for the event is the LA Fleet Week Leadership Council, comprised of community leaders in various sectors who are dedicated to supporting and advancing the mission of the annual LA Fleet Week event.

In addition to the LA Fleet Week website where visitors can get event information and sign up for email updates, event developments are also being announced on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as @LAFleetWeek, or can be tracked on social media using #LAFleetWeek2017.
