PORT OF LOS ANGELES TO HOST ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMIT JANUARY 30th AT BANNING’S LANDING
Environmental, Community Leaders Will Join Port, Regulatory Agencies and Business Sector to Help Shape Future Efforts
SAN PEDRO, Calif. — January 15, 2015 — The Port of Los Angeles will host an Environmental Summit on Friday, January 30th at Banning’s Landing Community Center in Wilmington. The summit will bring together environmental and community leaders, regulatory agencies, labor and cargo industry representatives to discuss ongoing environmental initiatives and priorities in addition to future programs and potential initiatives that will help ensure balanced and sustainable Port growth and operational efficiency in the years ahead.
“It is critical that we express and demonstrate our continuing commitment to growing green, and the dialogue on how we will do that begins at this Environmental Summit,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “We expect this to be the first in a series of meetings with stakeholders to help us formulate and plan our environmental strategies moving forward.”
The Environmental Summit will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, January 30th at Banning’s Landing, 100 E. Water Street in Wilmington. The event is open to the public.
The Port of Los Angeles has long been recognized for its environmental stewardship and industry-leading sustainability initiatives, which have focused on cutting pollution from ships, trucks, trains, cargo-handling equipment and harbor craft. The Port’s most recent Inventory of Air Emissions shows continued significant reductions in harmful emissions associated with port operations. The efforts are the result of a comprehensive slate of clean air measures, requirements and incentives implemented by the Port and stakeholders over the last decade.
The meeting will be set up as a roundtable discussion, with additional seating for audience participants. Invited panel participants include local community leaders, including the neighborhood councils, representatives from the Port of Long Beach, key regulatory agencies, and representatives from environmental organizations that are active at the two ports, as well as representatives from private industry, local labor organizations and the ports’ terminal and railway operators. The meeting is open to the public and audience seating will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
