BEST PLACES TO VIEW TALL SHIPS PARADE INTO THE PORT OF LOS ANGELES TO KICK OFF
FESTIVAL OF SAIL LA 2008

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – August 12, 2008 – More than a dozen tall ships, including the U.S. Coast Guard Eagle, will parade into the Port of Los Angeles on Friday, August 15, to kick off Festival of Sail LA 2008.  The ships will congregate off of Point Fermin beginning at 9 a.m. and will parade into the Port of Los Angeles and down the Main Channel from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Places to go for the best view include:

Point Fermin - South Gaffey Street at Paseo del Mar in San Pedro (for the gathering of the ships)

Ports O’ Call Village - Enter from Harbor Blvd. and 6th Streets in San Pedro

Berth 87 - Harbor Boulevard and 1st Street in San Pedro

S.S. Lane Victory - Berth 94 in San Pedro, adjacent to the World Cruise Center in San Pedro (the S.S. Lane Victory is an operating museum and there is a $3.00 per-person charge to visit)

The Festival of Sail LA 2008 will continue at the Port of Los Angeles through Sunday, August 17.  During the Festival, ships will allow public boarding while at dock and there will be plenty of activities and entertainment for the entire family. Hours are Friday noon to 7 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. 

Souvenir Guidebooks with photos and information on all the visiting Tall Ships will be available for $5 and proceeds benefit the TopSail Youth Sail Training Program at the Port of Los Angeles. 

For the more adventurous, tickets are available for staged cannon battle sails aboard selected ships on Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m.  Tickets for the two-hour sails are $65 for adults and $40 for children 12 and under.  For ticket sales, call (866) 46-5969.
