PORT OF LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES 'WORLD CUP ON THE LA WATERFRONT'

2014 World Cup Final to be Projected on Super-Sized Screen July 13 at Wilmington Waterfront Park

Downtown HarborSAN PEDRO, Calif. — June 20, 2014 — The Port of Los Angeles will host “World Cup on the LA Waterfront,” a live stream of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ final. The free family-oriented event will be held Sunday, July 13, at Wilmington Waterfront Park, with the live game projected on a large high definition (HD) screen.

“We’re excited to host the first ever outdoor viewing party of the World Cup Final on our Los Angeles Waterfront!” said Harbor Commissioner Anthony Pirozzi, who brought the idea to his colleagues on the Los Angeles Harbor Commission. “This event represents the recognition and passion of our local area soccer fans and families who gather together every four years to be part of the world’s biggest sporting event, FIFA’s World Cup. It is also a great way to leverage our beautiful waterfront park as one soccer community.”

The “World Cup on the LA Waterfront” family event kicks off at 10 a.m. PST (Pacific Standard Time) in the park’s plaza area near C Street and Neptune Avenue in Wilmington. The final match is scheduled to begin at noon PST (4 p.m. BRT, Brasilia Time), and expected to end around 4 p.m. PST, once the match is over and the winners are awarded the World Cup trophy.

Pre-event festivities will include soccer-themed pre-game fun and activities for the entire family. Local restaurants will also be on hand selling food. KWHY Channel 22 News Anchor Palmira Perez will serve as the event emcee.

All attendees will need to bring their own low-profile lawn or beach chairs or blankets for seating. Coolers will be allowed, but no pop-up tents, grills or barbeques will be permitted. In accordance with park regulations, no alcohol or drugs will be allowed. Los Angeles Port Police will be on patrol at the event throughout the day.

The event’s giant GoVision mobile HD screen features 16mm high definition resolution and measures 33 feet wide and 19 feet tall. It will be projected from a truck trailer bed measuring 53 feet long by 24 feet wide.
