July 1st Free Community Event Features Classic Cars, Music, Water Shows


SAN PEDRO, Calif. — June 20, 2011 — Come enjoy the L.A.Waterfront as the Port of Los Angeles hosts the 3rd Annual Cars and Stripes Forever!, a fun-filled evening on Friday July 1st from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Gateway Plaza Fanfare Fountain located at Harbor Boulevard and Swinford Street just south of the Vincent Thomas Bridge and across from the Harbor Blvd. exit off the 110 Freeway in San Pedro. The premier classic car show has grown each year and now includes a 9 p.m. fireworks display over the Main Channel.

More than 100 classic cars and motorcycles will be on display. Live music will include performances from Riptides, Shakey Pete, Daddyos, Jamnesia and The Topics. Food and a beer garden will be available, with proceeds benefiting the Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society, the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, Los Angeles Port Police Foundation and Clean San Pedro.

Activities abound for the entire family. Stroll along the Port’s Fanfare Fountain and watch the dancing water shows. Visit the TransPORTer, the Port’s 53-foot interactive exhibit. Make a thank-you card for our overseas troops. Or ride the Red Car trolley for free throughout the evening. Area restaurants and merchants will offer discounts for the evening.

Free parking is available at Harbor Boulevard and 1st Street, Harbor Boulevard and 6th Street and Ports O’ Call Village. A free shuttle is available to downtown San Pedro.
